The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest military decoration awarded for valour in the face of the enemy to members of the armed forces of Commonwealth countries, and previous British Empire territories. It is awarded for most conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy and takes precedence over all other orders, decorations and medals.

There have been 100 Australian Servicemen awarded the Victoria Cross since the first in 1900. 29 of these awards were made posthumously.
