• Middleweight Boxer, Rubin Hurricane Carter and his friend, John Artis were wrongly convicted for a June 1966 triple homicide in Patterson, New Jersey. Tried and convicted twice in 1967 and 1976 for the murders, their convictions were finally overturned in 1985.
• After serving 18 years and 14 years respectively, both men have since become advocates for the defence of the wrongly convicted.
• Their story inspired the 1975 Bob Dylan song Hurricane and the 1999 film The Hurricane starring Denzel Washington.
