On the 14th February 2014 Prime Minister Tony Abbott posthumously announced Special forces commando Corporal Cameron Stewart Baird Australia’s 100th VC recipient. The Victoria Cross (VC) was instituted in 1856 by Queen Victoria to recognise conspicuous bravery or valour or self sacrifice in the presence of the enemy by British and commonwealth forces. In the history of Australians at war there has only ever been 100 recipients of the Victoria Cross (VC) medal.
For the very first time a collection of photographs of Australians or Australian servicemen who have been awarded the Victoria Cross, has been compiled in presentation form. The poster explains the instruction of the Victoria Cross. It also provides the number awarded for each campaign. Underneath each photograph is illustrated the rank held at the time of earning the Victoria Cross, name, post-nominal as at May 1985, the branch of the service, Battalion, or Unit the man served in, the date or dates on which the Victoria Cross was earned, and where the Victoria Cross was earned.
The print is presented under license and displayed in a timber frame with mat board this tribute also includes an exact replica of the Victoria Cross with Crimson ribbon.
