  • Two-up played a special role at Gallipoli.
  • After the failed 'August Offensive' to capture the Sari Bair range that dominated the Gallipoli Peninsula, it was evident military objectives could not be achieved and the decision was taken to evacuate. As part of one of the most successful military withdrawals of all time it is said that rowdy games of two-up were staged to distract the Turks from preparations. On 20 December the last diggers left Gallipoli. Of more than 40,000 Australian and New Zealand troops evacuated, only two suffered minor injuries.
  • Two-up will always be part of Australia's Great War story. The coin-toss betting game was a welcome relief from the realities of life in the trenches, from Gallipoli to the Western Front. The excitement of two pennies flying, the gathering of mates and new men, and the hope of winning, spirited them away, if just for a moment, from the realities of war.
  • The Gallipoli 100 Two-Up kip is styled to reflect the makeshift packing-case kips fashioned by our diggers at Gallipoli and helps us remember the Spirit and courage of the 50,000 or so Australians who fought at Gallipoli between 25 April and 20 December 1915. By the campaign's end some 8,709 gave their lives on that rugged peninsula.
  • Authentic play or display kip and copper finish pennies.
