The ‘Waler’ Light Horseman Commemorative Collage Framed

$349.00

This unknown Light Horseman is from South Australia either 3rd or 9th Light Horse Regiment who distinguished themselves in the Battle of Beersheba 31st October 1917. The Waler is a unique Australian mount for the light Horsemen; it was strong and hardy which was needed in the harsh desert climate.

On average each horse carried a combined weight of 21 stone, 12 stone for rider plus another 9-1/2 stone for saddle, ammunition, sword, rifle, clothes and accoutrements. This was carried all day, every day for 17 days, on less than half the normal ration of forage and with only one drink in every 36 hours. This is a beautiful photographic print from the original, framed with a Rising Sun Badge.
